Fundamentals and Mindset/Psychology

Creating wealth starts from within. It's never about the how -- it is about who you are, which creates the result that you get. Only after you recognize and overcome past programming you may begin to re-program yourself for success and result.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

This is the book that started me on the real estate journey. Robert Kiyosaki tells of his story of growing up with the poor dad, his real father who works hard at his job and lost it all when office politics got in the way, and the rich dad, his best friend's father who created businesses to build wealth and to generate passive income.

Rich Dad Poor Dad teaches the very basics of how your money can work for you, and his definition of assets and liabitilites. This is a great book to start so you can understand there is another way to live life.

The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

How would you like to make a lot more money in your life? How would you like to have a lot more happiness in your life? How would you like to have a lot more of BOTH? This book is by T. Harv Eker, and it's about the mindset of millionaires. Accompanying the book are two tickets to the Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar, which I highly recommend. There is also an Millionaire Mind Evening, a free preview version of what MMI is, if you are interested in finding out more.

Lucky or Smart?

Lucky or Smart?

As a person with a tech background, I relate to Bo Peabody very well. Bo started a company called Tripod, which was bought out by Lycos during the Internet boom. In his book, Lucky or Smart?, he discusses the realization that he was lucky to have sold Tripod for $58 million, and that many people would have thought it must have been because they were smart. He was smart enough to know that he was lucky and ended up doing the right thing. This is a very nice, light read and a great story.

Real Estate

Here are some real estate specific books. Real Estate Investing in Canada begins with the fundamentals and mindset and I very strongly recommend getting that book! I still use it as reference all the time. Don Campbell donates the proceeds to Habitat to Humanity.

Real Estate Investing in Canada

Real Estate Investing in Canada

This is a book by Don R. Campbell, the founder of the Alberta-based Real Estate Investment Network (REIN). This books is written as a story of how Don R. Campbell helped a determined average Joe he met on an airplane become a professional real estate investor.

This book is really easy to read and is a step-by-step guide for beginning investors. If you are thinking about real estate investing, stop thinking and start acting, and, in my opinion, reading this book would be a great first step to take.
